SONY PICTURES TELEVISION TO LAUNCH FIRST MICRO DRAMA IN LATIN AMERICA
No es un Mito: La Llorona Reimagines one of Latin America’s Iconic Legends in an Immersive Vertical Format for Mobile-First Audiences
Culver City, CA. May 19 2026— During its presentation for Latin American buyers at L.A. Screenings, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced the launch of No es un Mito: La Llorona, SPT’s first premium micro drama for Latin America. Co-produced by SPT and VIP 2000 TV, the Spanish-language supernatural horror series will consist of 60 episodes of approximately one-minute in length presented in a vertical format optimized for mobile viewing.
No es un Mito: La Llorona is a premium vertical horror series that reimagines the legendary Latin American myth of the same name. The micro drama portrays a romantic tragedy and a generational curse within a dual timeline structure where past sins consume the present.
After surviving a terrifying supernatural attack, Javier Alonso Vergara discovers he is descended from the man who destroyed La Llorona’s life generations ago. Haunted by the spirit and marked by her curse, Javier joins forces with Verónica, a fearless paranormal investigator, to uncover the truth behind the deaths of María’s children before he becomes the next victim.
Blending emotional melodrama, mystery, and supernatural horror, the series combines cinematic storytelling with an immersive vertical format designed for mobile-first audiences.
“We are excited to continue expanding our storytelling formats with No es un Mito: La Llorona, our first premium micro drama for Latin America,” said Selina Nederhand, SVP & Co-Head, Networks, SPT. “This project reflects our commitment to developing compelling local stories designed for today’s digital-first audiences to reach viewers where they are.”
“For VIP 2000 TV, the fast-growing micro drama market is an opportunity to develop distinctive niche storytelling with strong global identity. Latin American horror urban legends represent a rich universe of stories that already fascinate audiences around the world. La Llorona is one of the most iconic to transcend generations and borders, and through premium production value, this adaptation is designed to connect with audiences in a bold new way,” said Roxana Rotundo, CEO of VIP 2000 TV.
The cast of La Llorona is led by Emma Mizrahi as María, who also embodies the haunting figure of La Llorona, alongside Daniel Medina in the dual role of Javier and Alonso. The production also stars Laura Rosguer as Verónica and renowned Venezuelan actress Verónica Schneider as Doña Beatriz.
No es un Mito: La Llorona is intended to be the first title under the No es un Mito banner, part of SPT Latin America’s broader strategy to explore new formats, including premium micro dramas, through culturally resonant stories inspired by Latin America’s most iconic urban legends.
